Florida Supports Senate Bill #1860 for Motor Vehicle PIP Reform

PIP Fraud PreventionOver the last few years, drivers living in Florida have been experiencing auto insurance rate increases despite clean driving records. One of the biggest issues affecting these premiums is Personal Injury Protection insurance fraud.

Throughout the state, the number of staged accidents and fraudulent PIP claims from bogus providers is increasing. Insurance companies are seeing an extremely high number of staged accidents that seem to be generated by criminals associated with clinics.

January 10, Senate Bill #1860 was announced, which is a comprehsive overhaul of laws surrounding Motor Vehicle Personal Injury Protection, specifically in the areas of Fraud Prevention, Litigation Reform, and Provider Accountability. The bill calls for the establishment of a direct-support organization for prosecuting, investigating and preventing motor vehicle insurance fraud.

This government support will lead to increased awareness and prosecution, and inevitably mean lower insurance rates for Florida drivers.
